OPAL K
OPAL K
The OPAL K Extract is a bioactive composition produced from application of the OPAL Process to the ripe fruit of the Carica papaya (paw paw) plant.
Extensive clinical data and scientific research shows that OPAL K has multiple therapeutic and cosmetic applications.
About OPAL K
OPAL K’s Proteolytic Activity
A family of cysteine proteases is one of several active ingredients in the OPAL K Extract.
Proteases are enzymes that catalyse the breakdown of proteins into smaller molecules called peptides. This type of catalytic activity is known as proteolytic activity.
Cysteine proteases are a family of proteases that are well known for their proteolytic activity against the fibrous proteins in the extracellular matrix (ECM) present within all human tissues and organs. The ECM provides the essential physical scaffolding for the cellular constituents of the organs.
Our scientific research has focused in part on the role and mechanism of action of this family of cysteine proteases.
OPAL K contains a Serine Protease
OPAL K is the first extract from the Carica papaya plant in which the presence of a proteolytically active serine protease has been identified.
OPAL K’s Other Therapeutic Properties
Our scientific and clinical research has shown there are other bioactive phytochemicals in the OPAL K Extract that have vasodilatory, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties (including bactericidal activity against MRSA).
